Sources close to the national government announced that this weekend more than 864,000 doses of the Oxford / AstraZéneca vaccine will arrive in Ezeiza. The provision is from the program Covax (collaboration + vaccines, in English), in which Argentina bought and paid for nine million vaccines, but very few came so far. The game will allow people between 60 and 69 years of age to begin vaccinating with greater intensity, no less than 3,500,000 in the country. Confirmations of other remittances are expected in the coming days.
The WHO Covax program, which sought to equalize the distribution of vaccines between central and peripheral countries, comes with enormous difficulties from the beginning: the laboratories turned their backs and gave almost all production to the central countries. In addition, the powerful began to prohibit the departure of vaccines from their countries.
Only 218,000 from the Covax program had arrived in Argentina and the WHO had broken promise after promise. This weekend’s vaccines come from the Netherlands – like the previous game – and were manufactured in South Korea.
The Oxford / AstraZéneca doses can come on a regular KLM flight because they do not need conservation at 20 degrees below zero as with the Sputnik V. They have a simpler logistics, they take up much less space because they do not require refrigerant and it is not essential to send an Aerolineas Argentina plane to look for them.
