Father of a young man who died in Military Service years ago continues to demand justice – 2024-05-01 11:17:58

Mr. Alfredo González, a Cuban father whose son committed suicide while he was completing his Compulsory Military Service in 2021continues to fight for justice and has denounced the abuses that were committed against the young man, which would have culminated in his death.

González’s son, Annier, was only 18 years old when he decided to take his life on July 4, 2021, with the help of a rifle that was given to him to serve as guard at the Combinado del Sur prison, in the province of Matanzas.

Through a video, the hurt father stated that the authorities of the Ministry of the Interior (Minint) and the Prosecutor’s Office have shown no intention of investigating what happened.

“I went to all the institutions after my son’s death and no one was doing anything, one by one from here in the province, and I went to see each chief in each place,” he stated.

He further noted that, after three years of complaints and claimsthe Prosecutor’s Office affirms that a file of an alleged Minint investigation has already appeared, but it is full of lies and inaccuracies about what happened.

“They did it that way sloppily, just to do it, and it was over,” said González.

In the video, he also talked about alleged abuses committed against his son by the officers in charge of the Military Service, actions that they stated “were authorized.”

“Where is the law that says they are authorized to abuse any boy and do what they did to him?” he asked indignantly.

According to the investigation, psychologists determined that the young man had “a psychopathological problem of adaptation to Military Service.”

“Do you think my son could adapt to Military Service with everything they did to him? I don’t believe it. So now the person responsible is my son, when those responsible are the Ministry of the Interior and those institutions that today have the pleasure of saying that the law must be complied with,” he added.

At the beginning of the year, the man shared another video in which he went to his son’s grave and swore that he would not rest until justice was done, warning that if he did not get answers, he would take to the streets.

Since the tragedy occurred, the man uses his social networks to share texts related to his son’s case, in which he never tires of blaming the Castro authorities for what happened. In his opinion, he cannot understand how it is that if they determined that the young man had mental problems, they gave him a gun knowing what could happen.
