751 new cases of dengue fever in 7 days in Reunion – Health

Although the majority of dengue fever cases are still in the south of the island, an upsurge of cases is evident in the west and east, in Saint-Benoît. In order to limit the spread of the virus, the ARS La Réunion and SDIS teams are continuing their work in areas strongly affected by dengue fever, by integrating the barrier measures against the spread of covid-19.

In this context, the implementation of preventive measures by everyone against dengue is essential to curb the epidemic on the territory. Also, the prefecture of Reunion and the ARS remind the population of the importance of quickly consulting a doctor in case of symptoms to get tested, protect themselves from mosquito bites and continue to protect themselves even sick to protect their loved ones, and eliminate breeding places at his home.

Dengue fever recommendations

Consult a doctor if symptoms appear: sudden onset of fever possibly associated with headache, muscle / joint pain, nausea, vomiting or fatigue.

In the Covid-19 context, some doctors offer teleconsultation. Do not hesitate to call your doctor before going to his doctor’s office. He will decide with you the best treatment (consultation in the office by appointment, teleconsultation by smartphone / computer, or home visit if necessary) and will guide you for carrying out a sample in the laboratory of medical analyzes for confirmation of the diagnosis dengue fever.

Simple gestures to implement on a daily basis:

– Protect yourself from mosquito bites (repellents, mosquito nets, long clothes, diffusers), and continue to protect yourself even if you are ill so as not to contaminate those around you

– Eliminate the water containers around his home (empty saucers and small objects that may contain water, check the flow of gutters …)

– Eliminate waste that can generate breeding sites

– Respect the days of removal of waste and bulky

– Cover the tanks with a cloth or mosquito net, and shelter the tires

The preventive actions carried out by all can help limit dengue / covid-19 co-infections likely to weaken fragile people, and preserve the health system currently mobilized in these two epidemics.
