In Switzerland too, countless doctors, paramedics, nurses and other helpers are working against the corona infection crisis that is rolling over the globe. The headlines are politicians, scientists and bureaucrats. But the real heroes are the many often nameless people in clinics and hospitals who treat and care for people with Covid-19 under very difficult, often dramatic conditions.
–
In a time of coronavirus, people in Spain thanked these medical helpers with a moving action. Tens of thousands of citizens went to the windows or the balconies late Saturday evening to thank their medical workers for a nightly ovation.
–
In Madrid, the minutes of enthusiastic applause and calls were heard practically all over the city at around 10 p.m. Car and bus drivers hold Hup concerts. Unsung heroes
After Italy, Spain is the country most affected by the crisis. The number of coronavirus cases has skyrocketed for days. By Saturday evening, more than 6,000 people had been infected with the new Sars CoV-2 virus. The number of deaths is almost 200.
–
But nowhere on the continent is the crisis raging more than in Italy, with almost 1300 dead and more than 17’500 infected. Right in the middle: the doctor Francesca Mangiatordi (46), who is pushing one double shift after the other in the emergency room at the Maggiore hospital in Cremona. She sometimes works with other rescuers for 14 hours without a break. Francesca Mangiatordi, she is one of the many new, unsung heroines in Italy with her selfless, tireless struggle for sacrifice against the virus.

It was Mangiatordi who shared the picture of her completely exhausted nurse colleague Elena Pagliarini (43) as she collapsed on the computer. «I had to capture this situation. It shows how much we go beyond our borders. We are finished, »said the doctor “Image”. Soon, the doctor is certain, it could also look like Italy in other European countries.

Seven urgent pieces of advice – appeal against the virus
In conversation with the newspaper, Mangiatordi lists seven urgent pieces of advice on how to stop the lung fever virus.
–
1. Stay at home: Contact with others should be stopped as much as possible. Staying at home is the “most important thing” so that more and more people don’t get infected. “Only go out in exceptional cases.”
–
2. Have medication and food delivered: Have everything that is possible delivered to your home. Important: no greeting kisses, no hugs, no shaking hands. And always keep a distance of one meter.
–
3. Wash hands: As often as possible. The virus is resistant, everything could be contaminated. Latex gloves would be ideal. Even if you only supposedly reach for fruit in the supermarket: «You don’t know who touched it before you.»
–
4. Listen to doctors: Mangiatordi: «If you implement our recommendations, we can control the situation. Those who do not follow our appeals will sooner or later end up in our emergency room – together with hundreds of others. »
–
5. Have patience: The situation will remain so until further notice. Those who feel safe and healthy and “therefore storm forward, risk prolonging their condition”.
–
6. Stay informed: Strictly adhere to the rules and announcements of the authorities. “If you are healthy and informed, you will stay healthy 99 percent of the time.”
–
7. Don’t underestimate the virus: Many would underestimate the virus – just like Italy. «Now we are struggling with the consequences. Do not take Corona lightly, but prepare yourself ahead of time for a massive corona wave », so the doctor’s urgent appeal. “Hospitals need to replenish supplies and staff, volunteers should already be recruited, people must be warned.”
