A 68-year-old woman from Manhattan went into a church to pray, and came out raped. So alleges a lawsuit filed last week in a Manhattan Supreme Court.

According to court documents, on January 30, 2019, the victim, who lives near the church Our Lady of Lourdes in Hamilton Heights, he entered the church because he found the doors open.

According to that lawsuit, when the woman walked in, a homeless man grabbed her by force, “He covered her mouth, took her to the bathroom and proceeded to beat her with his fist and smash her against the wall. At that time, the perpetrator ripped off her clothes and raped her.”

The priest discovered them

The complaint also ensures that the alleged attacker was a man who had been around the church before and “had exposed his genitals to older women” on other occasions.

The nightmare finally ended around 10 pm, when the Reverend Gilberto Angel-Neri passed by the bathroom and, noticing that something strange was happening, he screamed. This caused the victim to also scream and his attacker to flee.

Jane Doe was taken by ambulance to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital after the attack.

The alleged assailant was later identified as Craig Ellis, 55.

The alleged attacker had about 30 prior arrests

According to The Daily News, Ellis has about 30 prior arrests on record, some of them for exposing himself to women inside the church.

Now the victim, identified in these documents as “Jane Doe,” and her husband claim that the man who attacked her “was known to church members and staff as a danger to the community,” and that Our Lady of Lourdes and the Archdiocese of New Yorkthey did not take security measures reasonable to allow a dangerous person to enter the premises.”

Ellis is being held on $100,000 cash bond.. He is accused of a number of charges ranging from attempted rape and sexual abuse to robbery and assault, and has undergone numerous psychiatric evaluations as the criminal case progresses, according to court records.
