67% of Japanese, when infected with corona, “are more concerned about glares than health”

A survey found that most Japanese people tend to care more about their surroundings than their own health if they are infected with Corona 19.

In a survey conducted last year by the Asahi Shimbun of 2,216 voters across the country, 67% of respondents said they were more concerned about the glances of others, such as those around them or colleagues, than their own health.

As for the likelihood of becoming severe after infection, 87% said they felt very or somewhat anxious.

In this survey, it was confirmed that many Japanese also wear masks because of other people’s attention.

When asked why they wore it, 35% said it was because of the gaze of others rather than as a means of preventing infection.

The Asahi Shimbun analyzed that the results of this survey showed that in Japanese society, a system of consciousness that monitors the behavior of people who are not conscious of standards compliance is in operation.
