66.5 Percent of Patients in Indonesia Experience Long Covid

Long Covid or prolonged symptoms due to infection virus corona reason Covid-19 be a threat. The study found that 66.5 percent of Covid-19 patients in Indonesia experienced long Covid.

Long Covid is believed to be caused by acute respiratory syndrome that affects other organs.

The study entitled “Clinical Characteristics and Quality of Life of Persistent Symptoms of Covid-19 Syndrome in Indonesia“This was done by a number of experts from the Friendship Hospital, Jakarta. Of the total 385 respondents, 66.5 percent or around 256 of them experienced prolonged symptoms.

“Long Covid symptoms were found in 256 subjects,” the researchers wrote.

Most patients (54.3 percent) experienced long Covid for 14 days to one month. Another 43 percent experienced prolonged symptoms for 1-6 months. The remaining 2.7 percent experienced long Covid for more than six months.

There are also some symptoms that occur in long Covid. Here are some of them:

– fever (1.9 percent);
– fatigue (29.4 percent);
– cough (15.5 percent);
– muscle pain (11.7 percent);
– dyspnea (11.2 percent);
– headaches (11 percent).

The study also found that the risk of long COVID-19 was significantly higher in patients who were older and had comorbidities such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes.

“The risk of long Covid-19 was significantly higher in subjects who were older, had comorbidities, developed pneumonia, and required oxygen therapy,” the researchers wrote in their presentation.

The results of the analysis revealed pneumonia as one of the most influential factors in triggering long Covid. As many as 81.5 percent of patients with pneumonia experienced long Covid.

Not only that, long Covid is also triggered by the nutritional status of patients. A total of 169 obese patients were found to have long Covid. This figure is different from only 87 percent of obese patients who did not experience long Covid.
