Maria Mendiola, one of the two singers of the Spanish group Baccara, has died at the age of 69, as reported on Saturday by the musical duo’s official Instagram account. The band enjoyed huge success in the 1970s with “Yes sir, I can boogie” and entered the Eurovision Song Contest in 1978. “How hard is it for me to publish this? My dear Maria, wonderful artist , but for me above all? My friend, she left us today. Words cannot come out? I can only thank so much love for the way I received for her part and tell her what so much I have had the opportunity to tell him many times in life. I love you, ”we can read on the group’s Instagram post. In 1977, Maria Mendiola and Mayte Mateos enjoyed great success with “Yes sir, I can boogie”, which sold eighteen million copies. The sequel, “Sorry, I’m a Lady”, was also very well received in the European charts. In 1978, Baccara represented Luxembourg at the Eurovision Song Contest in Paris with “Parlez-vous français” and reached seventh place. (Belga)
