6 Skincare Content That Will Boom in 2021

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Various natural products for facial care (skincare) will still be a hit in 2021. In contrast to makeup products that have decreased purchases, skin care products have actually increased.

During the pandemic, more and more people began to pay attention to facial skin health, especially problems such as dry skin, irritation and acne, many of which emerged due to wearing masks for too long. This is perhaps what makes skin care products more sought after than make-up products.

The following are six ingredients in facial skin care products by a number of beauty experts that will continue to be popular and sought after in 2021.

1.Moringa (moringa) leaves

Citing Antara, besides being often used for food, Moringa or moringa leaves can also be used for treatment because they contain the antioxidant vitamin E and are high in vitamin A.

The high content of vitamin A in moringa or moringa leaves makes this plant also has properties similar to retinol, which is to prevent premature aging.

The high vitamin E content in Moringa leaves also helps to overcome dry skin problems and strengthens the skin layer so it is not easily irritated.

A number of beauty products also use moringa which is proven to accelerate skin cell regeneration, help treat acne, brighten and even out skin tone so it is effective in helping to remove acne scars and excessive pigmentation.

2. Mugwort

Mugwort is a Korean herbal plant whose extract has been used as an ingredient in skin care products since 2018. Mugwort extract has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties so that it can reduce inflammation that causes irritation and acne. Mugwort can even help relieve skin problems like eczema or psoriasis, due to the plant’s high vitamin E content.

3. Bakuchiol

Bakuchiol comes from plants Psoralea corylifoli (babchi) which is often used for traditional medicine since ancient times in China. Bakuchiol, which appeared in the form of skin care in mid-2020, is often referred to as a replacement for ketinol, although it has differences at the chemical level.

Bakuchiol itself has the benefit of increasing the skin’s collagen production, thereby reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and dark spots – plus giving skin a glow.

4. Probiotics and prebiotics

According to a certified dermatologist from the United States, Dr. Whitney Bowe, probiotics can benefit the skin in three main ways. First, they act as a protective shield by preventing bad microorganisms from damaging the skin’s immunity.

Second, probiotics produce natural antibiotics called anti-microbial peptides that fight bad bacteria. And finally, probiotics can improve skin function in dealing with external factors that damage skin including free radicals, the sun, and pollution.

5. Gotu kola leaf extract (Centella asiatica)

Extract from gotu kola leaf which has Latin name Asiatic spark or cica, has begun to be favored and sought after by beauty product lovers since 2019.

Cica is sought after because it is rich in amino acids, beta carotene, fatty acids, and various potential phytochemicals. The extract also functions to calm inflammation, accelerate wound healing, stimulate new cell growth, build collagen, and improve circulation.

Various products containing cica are then widely used to treat irritation and even acne due to using masks for too long.

6. Niacinamide

Same as Asiatic sparkProducts containing niacinamide will continue to be sought after because they have a basic function similar to cica, which is able to treat skin inflammation due to irritation and acne.

Niacinamide also has a function to help control the process of excessive oil production that causes sebum and acne. Owners of oily faces certainly look for this content a lot, because it is not uncommon for their faces to experience irritation and acne problems after using masks for a long time.

The antioxidants found in niacinamide can also help reduce skin problems due to premature aging as well as protect the skin from exposure to ultraviolet rays and pollution.
