Solopos.com, SOLO–A total of 50,100 children aged 0 years to 7 years in Solo were targeted polio vaccine immunization through the National Immunization Sub Week (PIN) program.

This is part of the government’s efforts to prevent the transmission of polio following the discovery of one positive case of polio in Klaten in December 2023.

Acting Head of the Solo City Health Service (DKK), Setyowati, said the Sub PIN Polio program was held simultaneously in every region throughout Central Java on January 15. The target recipients of the polio vaccine are children aged 0 years-7 years in the city of Solo.

“For Solo City, the target number of polio vaccine recipients is 50,100 children. “They are spread across every sub-district,” he said to Solopos.com, Wednesday (10/1/2024).

According to Setyowati, the Sub PIN Polio program was implemented in two rounds, namely January 15 and February 19. Meanwhile, vaccines are given at community health centers, posyandu and schools.

The polio vaccine for children was given to prevent transmission of the virus following the discovery of positive polio cases in Manisrenggo District, Klaten, at the end of 2023. Similar cases were also found in Pamekasan, Madura.

Polio is a disease that can be prevented by immunizing children. The polio virus easily reproduces in the digestive tract and attacks the child’s nervous system, causing paralysis.

The public is asked to be proactive in stopping the transmission of the virus by ensuring that children receive complete polio immunization.

Apart from that, implement clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS) when doing activities at home and school. “If symptoms appear such as decreased muscle strength in the legs and arms, immediately go to the health center or hospital. “So, it was immediately followed up and handled,” he said.

Head of the Solo DKK Health Services Division, Tenny Setyoharini, hopes that the level of children’s participation in the polio immunization program will be high. So, no more children will experience polio symptoms in the country.

He invited parents to go to the nearest health service to receive the polio vaccine.
