5 dead in Colorado shootings: ‘Perpetrator chose victims’ | Abroad

Lyndon James McLeod, 47, opened fire at a Denver tattoo shop on Monday. Two women were killed and one man was injured. The shooter then went to a home in Denver, where he shot and killed a man. He shot and killed another man at a tattoo shop in Lakewood. In a hotel, he fired several shots at a receptionist, who also died.

The police tracked down the man. “Shots were exchanged with our officers again,” said John Romero, Lakewood police spokesman. The police officers were able to shoot the gunman, he was pronounced dead on the spot. McLeod’s motive is not yet entirely clear, but the New York Post reports that he also owned a tattoo parlor himself. Mcleod had extremist ideas and is said to have had psychiatric problems before. Multiple police sources confirmed this to ABC News.

Denver Police Department commander Matt Clark says the gunman knew all of his victims except the last person he shot, the receptionist at a hotel in the Belmar shopping district in Lakewood. Sarah Steck, who died of her injuries on Tuesday, was likely targeted because of an argument the shooter had with the hotel, not her.

The shooting is already the 687th mass shooting in the United States this year, in which four or more victims were killed except for the perpetrator. That’s what Gun Violence Archive says.
