This is going to happen in a big audition process, and now the first round is underway. With 310 submitted audition videos and 50 names known to the theater, Pálsson is now working on choosing who will make it to the second round.
– Actors who are already at the house, or who have played here before, go directly to the second round, which is an in-depth conversation over video with possible tasks inside. There are 360 people who have shown interest, and I am completely surprised, and uneasily proud and happy, that people are so interested in our work up here at Hålogaland Theater.
Respect for the process
Pálsson does not yet know how many will advance to the second round.
– I do not have a specific number, but I go by how many are good in this round and who we want to meet again. We’re two people looking through all the videos, and it’s me and my coordinator. In addition, there are always third and fourth person from the management and the artistic team present, so there is good reasoning in the room.
The list of applicants includes local, national and international names, and is almost evenly distributed between women and men, according to the recent theater director. He does not want to give a date for when the second round will start.
– It is always emotional to apply for a job, and I have respect for the actors who are in the process. I therefore want to let those concerned know directly before I guess a date. But we are in the middle of it now, says Pálsson and says that we are talking weeks, not months.
The third step is a workshop for the actors with short rehearsals.
– How many will you end up with in the end?
– We are looking for 10 actors, as well as some freelancers.
The dramaturg
Hålogaland Teater has also searched for a new playwright, and the process of finding the right person is already underway.
– There are 25 people who have applied for the job, and all have had a good reason to apply to put it that way. I think it’s a bit of a difficult process because there are a lot of qualified people that I have to choose from. So there is also something I am in the middle of now, says the Icelander and adds:
