350 hunters demonstrate in front of the prefecture

One day ahead of their colleagues from other regions, the hunters of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté met in Dijon this Friday, September 17. They say they want to defend “traditional bird hunts” deemed illegal by the Council of State.

Bourgogne-Franche-Comté is not at all concerned by so-called traditional hunts. And yet, they were still around 350 to demonstrate this Friday, September 17 afternoon in front of the regional prefecture in Dijon. A modest gathering which aimed to express solidarity with their colleagues from the southwest or the north of France.

Because, last month, the Council of State judged several hunting techniques with nets or cages contrary to the European directive “birds” which dates from 2009; glue hunting was banned in June 2021.

The president of the Regional Hunting Federation of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Pascal Sécula, underlines “discontent and anger“in his ranks on the occasion of this gathering; According to him, anger is mounting:

We are doing everything to dismantle the hunt piece by piece. We start with traditional hunts but we know where it wants to go: the end of hunts in France

At the heart of the rally, Emilie, 22, wanted to be there. She wants to show, she says, that there are not only men and that there are also young people among the hunters.

These hunters made the trip from the Jura

Several associations from the different departments of the region were present.
Their representatives were received by the regional prefect Fabien Sudry. The government has already made a move by submitting for public consultation the 8 decrees authorizing the various traditional hunts. Glue hunting will remain prohibited no matter what.

The “France Nature Environment” association also reacted. Its spokesperson for Saône-et-Loire, Thierry Grosjean sent a press release, addressing hunters directly:

You defend special interests for your leisure; we defend the general interest of a very large majority for the defense of nature and biodiversity. (…) We are nature defending itself, unarmed.

The approach of the presidential election will undoubtedly revive the debates.
