30% of the population wants to end the war in Ukraine / Article

The survey was conducted by the public opinion research firm “VCIOM”, but its results were not made public. Respondents had to answer the question whether they support the continuation of hostilities in Ukraine, or whether this war should end as soon as possible.

As reported by “Meduza”, in this survey, 30% of respondents answered that the war in Ukraine should end as soon as possible. 57% support the continuation of the war, while 13% avoided a specific answer to this question.

In the big cities of Russia, Moscow and St. Petersburg, the proportion of opponents of the war is around 40%.

The war launched by Putin’s regime is particularly unpopular among young Russians, but most pensioners support it.

According to survey data, 56% of respondents in the age group from 18 to 24 years are in favor of ending the war, while only 19% support its continuation. In the age group from 25 to 34 years old, both opinions are spread approximately the same (43% against the war and 41% in favor), but in the age group over 60 years old, 72% of respondents support the continuation of the war.

Significant trends also reveal the answers to this question, taking into account the main ways of obtaining information. Among those who get their information mainly from Russian TV channels, 68% are in favor of continuing the war, 22% are against it. On the other hand, among active Internet users, 47% are against the war, 35% are for it.

As sociologist Grigory Yudin concludes in a conversation with “Meduza”, the results of the survey are not surprising, as other surveys also show that older Russian residents support the war in Ukraine the most.

“It’s old man and security forces war; they want to lock the country in the past,” says Yudins.

CONTEXT:

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered to start invasion of Russian troops in Ukraine. Putin claimed that NATO was going to use Ukraine as a springboard for aggression against Russia, although there was no evidence for these claims. Ukraine believes that Putin’s real goal is to destroy Ukrainian statehood and bring the territory under Moscow’s control.

Russia’s aggression against Ukraine has caused a general condemnation of the international communityagainst Russia is done more and more sanctions are introduced. Many western companies have decided to leave the Russian market.
