The Israeli army announced that since the beginning of the war a month ago, it has destroyed a total of 130 tunnels of the Palestinian group “Hamas” in the territory of the Gaza Strip, DPA reported.

Today, the military released video footage showing heavy equipment digging tunnel entrances and lifting a concrete slab.

Stockpiles of water and oxygen bottles in the tunnels are evidence of the group’s plans for a prolonged stay, the statement said. The army has discovered tunnel shafts and under a Hamas training camp in northern Gaza, which has been destroyed.

The Israelis claim that there is a complex network of tunnels in the sandy soil of the Gaza Strip, which is only about 45 kilometers long, between 6 and 14 kilometers wide in its various parts, and has a population of over two million people, BTA reported.

Some of the tunnels are electrified. On average, they are two meters high and one meter wide, but some are large enough for vehicles to pass through. Some go tens of meters underground to withstand Israeli aerial bombardment.

Their entrances are said to be in residential buildings or mosques. Israeli intelligence says Hamas operates its command and control center under al-Shifa Hospital, the largest hospital in the Gaza Strip, a claim the group denies.

“We are talking about tens and tens of kilometers underground with command, control and communication rooms, supply rooms and missile launch sites,” military expert from Tel Aviv University Harel Chorev told CNN television, writes “24 Chasa” .
