25 million; Onam Bumper 1st prize for this ticket

At Gorky Bhawan in Thiruvananthapuram, Finance Minister KN Balagopal won the first prize of the Onam bumper.

The grand prize this year is Rs 25 crore. 15.75 crore after tax for the first prize winner. The signatory on the back of the ticket is entitled to the prize.

The second prize is 5 crore of rupees. The third prize is one crore of rupees each for ten people. 90 people will receive one lakh rupees as a fourth prize. A total of Rs 126 crore will be given as gifts this time around.

Tickets for 66.5 lakhs were sold until Saturday evening. Last year, 54 lakhs of tickets were sold for Onam. This time 65 lakhs were printed for the first time. Due to high demand, another two and a half lakhs were printed. Tickets were sold until Sunday afternoon. This time, the government had given permission for the lottery department to print tickets up to 90 lakhs.

The ticket price was 500 rupees. Small agents will receive Rs 95 as commission and large agents who sell more than 1000 tickets will receive Rs 99.69 as commission. About Rs 400 per ticket reaches the exchequer.

270 crore already achieved thanks to Onam’s exceptional sales. The government receives the cash award, 28% GST, and the department’s running costs. Last year, the government got Rs 124.5 crore through the sale of tickets to Onam. 54 lakh tickets were sold. That time the ticket price was 300 rupees.

Lottery agents, from wholesalers to street vendors, were initially horrified when the Rs 500 ticket with a first prize of Rs 25 crore hit the market. They were worried that people would buy tickets for such a large amount. But within days of the sale, the concern subsided. Tickets sold out so fast. Things have come to an exceptional shortage of tickets. As ticket sales increased, a situation arose where retail agents could not get tickets. The lottery department was to address the shortage by providing more tickets in the later stages. Daily lottery sales of Rs. 40 also increased. 1.08 lakh tickets are printed every day. And everything runs out.
