The winter semester 2022/23 began at the Mönchengladbach and Krefeld offices of the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences. 2514 first year students were greeted with a huge street food festival. Of the approximately 2,500 students, 2,226 are starting a degree. The number of Master’s students, which currently stands at 288, may slightly increase in the coming weeks due to late enrollments.

The first day started for first year students in their respective departments. In the afternoon – after a two-year break – a “Street Food Festival” took place on the Mönchengladbach campus. There, the students were awaited by numerous food stands, a stage with live music and lots of information on how to live and study at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences.

University president Thomas Grünewald welcomed the new students and addressed the university’s request. “We don’t just say ‘your path’, we want to accompany you on your course of study with numerous offers,” said the president of the university.

In university courses, the value should not be given only to technical skills. Rather, interdisciplinary skills should also be taught throughout the course of study. “We want to guide you so that you can be strong members of our society. We want to pay particular attention to the areas of sustainability and digitization, “said Grünewald.

First-year students start in around 90 bachelor’s and master’s courses, offered in ten departments in Mönchengladbach and Krefeld. Particularly popular this year are social work with 199 entries and nutrition sciences with 157 entries.

Computer science (141) and business administration (138) courses are also still in high demand. 133 people enrolled in the relatively new Cyber Security Management course. Among the part-time courses, he also leads Cyber Security Management with 30 enrollments, ahead of Health Care Management with 24 enrollments.

Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Germany. Almost 13,800 students are enrolled in 87 three-year and 27 master’s degree courses.
