22-year-old man sentenced to four years in prison for attempted murder at Lambertseter school

The now 22-year-old man has been sentenced in the Oslo District Court to four years in prison for attempted murder, as well as to pay NOK 120,000 in compensation. The incident happened on the night of March 22 last year at Lambertseter school in Oslo. Convicts consider appealing the case.

The two old friends explained quite differently about the prelude to the incident, when they met in the Oslo District Court. They were childhood friends, but in March 2022 had become unfriended because of a mobile phone that the now convicted murderer had borrowed from the victim.

In addition, they argued about NOK 500, without the judgment specifying in more detail what the argument was about.

Relied on gun law

Anyway: The two had agreed to meet at Lambertseter school after midnight to fight and make up. The agreement was that no weapons were to be used during the fight.

The convicted murderer denied having tried to kill his friend, and believed that he tried to scare the victim with the knife, and that it was in an emergency. In the district court, he explained that he had not trusted that his childhood friend would show up unarmed at school. He had therefore brought a knife. The fight started badly for him, when he received an unexpected blow to the back of the head.

The convict’s statement reads as follows: When he next looked at (the victim), he saw that he put one hand to his pocket, where it looked like something was sticking out. (The convict) thought that (the victim) was reaching for a weapon, and therefore he took out the knife to scare and defend himself. He held the knife with very little force, while (the victim) moved his body towards him as he tried to strike again. (The victim) suddenly stopped and said “you stabbed me”, but (the convict) thought he had only hit his jacket.

The victim explained in court that he first went towards the convict and hit him with a strong right hand punch to the face. He was about to strike the convict with his left hand, when he was suddenly stabbed.

Got help from a taxi driver

From his explanation it is stated: (The victim) simultaneously raised his left arm for a subsequent blow quickly afterwards. Then he felt something strange in his left side, and when he felt with his hand, he felt a hole. (He) then said “you stabbed me”, and (convict) replied “yes”.

The victim then ran from the scene. That same evening, his brother contacted the police and named the stabber. Convicts had taken a taxi from school and dumped the knife on the road. The police later found the knife with the help of the taxi driver. Explanations from the two childhood friends, as well as messages they had sent each other before the fight, enabled the police to solve the case.

The Oslo District Court has not believed the explanation that the convict acted in an emergency. The court emphasizes that he initially denied that a knife had been involved, and that the emergency guardian explanation only came after he was given access to what evidence the police had.

His defender, lawyer Lars Mathias Undheim, says that the convict is considering appealing the case.

– I believe the court has made an incorrect assessment on several points, and I particularly disagree with the district court’s assessment of whether he acted with intent to kill when he and the victim were fighting. My client has explained that he wanted to defend himself and tried to scare the victim with the knife. At no time did he think that his actions would take the victim’s life. I look forward to getting a correct assessment by the Court of Appeal on these topics, says Undheim to Nettavisen.
