As many as 21 employees in the factory Unilever Cikarang, Bekasi Regency, West Java, tested positive for the Corona virus (COVID-19). The Bekasi Regency COVID-19 Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling asks the public not to worry about the safety of Unilever products.
“We urge that people do not panic. Measures taken to ensure the health and safety of the community in the surrounding environment have been carried out very strictly and in accordance with health protocols. There is no need to worry about product contamination, because so far there has been no evidence of disease transmission through consumer goods and / or everyday products, either during this outbreak or similar outbreaks before (for example SARS). For that reason, the possibility of this happening is very small to happen, “said spokesperson for the COVID-19 Bekasi Regency Alamsyah Task Force to Accelerate Handling in his statement on Thursday. Currently Bekasi Regency Government is still doing tracing or search for COVID cases from findings at the Cikarang Unilever factory. “As many as 21 employees (positive). That’s a temporary number, there are no results yet,” said Alamsyah.
Unilever spoke about the health protocol in the factory area. He also made sure the product stock was still safe.
“We will continue to ensure that all occupational safety and health standards in our factory are met before we return to normal operations. We understand that our products are an important part of consumers’ daily lives. Therefore, we need to convey that this will not affect supply to consumers. The stock in our warehouse and distributor and customer warehouse is still sufficient, “said Director of Corporate Affairs and Corporate Secretary of PT Unilever Indonesia Tbk Sancoyo Anundurso in his statement on Thursday (2/7/2020).
