TNI stated that two soldiers from the Pamrahwan Task Force Infantry Battalion R 432 were killed when they were attacked by an unidentified person (OTK) in the airport area, Yahukimo Regency, Papua.
“On May 18, 2021 there was an attack by OTK at Zero Airport Goliat Dekai Yahukimo,” said Kapendam XVII / Cenderawasih Lt. Col. Reza Nur Patria to reporters, Tuesday (18/5).
Reza has not been able to provide further details regarding the chronology of the attack. He only said that the victim was at the airport to secure construction.
“Safeguarding the construction of the Yahukimo Airport embankment,” he said.
From the information gathered, the two victims were Prada AYA and Praka A. The perpetrators attacked the two soldiers and then took their weapons.
The weapon taken was a 5.56 mm caliber SS2 V1 type used by the victim as a TNI soldier.
After the incident, joint TNI-Polri personnel led by the Chief of Police Yahukimo AKBP Deni Herdiana combed and chased down the perpetrators. Victims have also been evacuated.
West Papua National Liberation Army-Free Papua Organization (TPNPB-OPM) spokesman Sebby Sambom claimed his troops were responsible for the attack on two TNI members. He said this was part of the war against the Indonesian military.
“The Commander of Kodap XVI Yahukimo Elkius Kobak and the field commander are responsible. … The TPNPB National Commission under the command of High Commander Gen Goliath Tabuni and the Unimportant operations commander Major General Lekagak Telenggen are responsible,” Sebby said in a written message to CNNIndonesia.com.
“TPNPB needs weapons. So the goal is clear, the national liberation war for the Papuan people must move. So be prepared to try and find a way,” he said again.
