2. Bundesliga: VfB Stuttgart wins at VfL Bochum

Stuttgart has landed an important away win in an effort to return to the Bundesliga. VfB won 1: 0 (0: 0) at the end of the 22nd second division match day at VfL Bochum and is again tied for second place in the table after the Hamburger SV draw in Hanover. The chasing duo is three points behind leaders Arminia Bielefeld. With 23 points, Bochum is 15th in the relegation battle.

For Stuttgart it is the first away win in the league since September 27th. On that eight match day, VfB won 1-0 in Bielefeld. Then only a success in the cup at HSV succeeded.

Substitute Hamadi Al Ghaddioui scored the winning goal in the 81st minute. The goal was preceded by an unconditional mistake by VfL defender Saulo Decarli near his own penalty area.

“One mistake made too much”

It was remarkable that it had been 0-0 by then. Because actually both teams came on good occasions. For VfB, who had significantly more possession, Gonzalo Castro (4th minute) and especially Silas Wamangituka (31st) missed chances of 1-0. Wamangituka had a clear shot at the end but missed the goal. Silvère could have scored Ganvoula for Bochum (27.).

“It is not easy when the competitors score and you have to add on Monday. We have not won away for a long time. We are happy that we made it,” said VfB professional Pascal Stenzel at Sky.

Bochum goalkeeper Manuel Riemann said: “We made one mistake too much, that’s annoying. The point would have been more than deserved.” Sports director Sebastian Schindzielorz said he “saw that the team is intact. We now have an important game in Dresden ahead of us. We have to show a similar character there.” Bochum will compete in the last-placed Dynamo on Saturday. Stuttgart receives Jahn Regensburg at the same time.
