14-Year-Old Accused of Fatal Stabbing on Scheduled Bus in Bærum

– We do not have a full overview of the cause. We are still early in the investigation, says police inspector Knut Lutro.

There must have been an argument between the accused and the victim on the bus, he says.

The police met the press about the murder in Bærum, at 11 o’clock.

The accused of murder is 14 years old, and therefore under the criminal minimum age. He is now being taken care of by child protection, the police say.

The police inspector will not comment on whether the accused and victim got on the bus at the same time.

They have not questioned the accused of murder yet, and do not know whether there is a relationship between the victim and the accused.

– It appears that there was a random meeting inside this bus, he says.

The defender of the accused murderer, Thor Bache-Wiig, says, however, that it was not a random victim.

– It should not be about a random person, says the defender.

According to the defender, the accused and the victim knew each other from before. There must have been a conflict between the two since the summer, according to Bache-Wiig.

– He says he never intended to kill. He never had any thoughts that this would end in death, says the defender.

Bache-Wiig says he feels that the 14-year-old and the victim happened to bump into each other on the bus. And that his client felt threatened.

– The man who was stabbed is a person he has had conflicts with in the past.

The defender says the 14-year-old will be questioned by the police on Boxing Day.

Stabbing in a scheduled bus

It was a man in his 20s who died on the night of Saturday, after being stabbed on a scheduled bus in Bærum. The police announced this in a press release on Saturday morning.

– The case is being investigated as murder in the usual way. Although he cannot be punished, he has been charged, says police inspector Lutro.

The perpetrator is said to have run from the scene after the stabbing. The person charged in the case reported to the police in Sandvika during the night.

The charge has now been changed from attempted murder to murder. The accused is known to the police from earlier.

Police inspector Knut Lutro does not want to comment on whether they have control of the murder weapon.

The next of kin have been notified and are being taken care of, the police said.

Bærum municipality has now set up a crisis team.

– Our thoughts and condolences go out to the bereaved and relatives, family and friends, and the young people who witnessed this incident, says mayor Lisbeth Hammer Krog in a press release on Saturday at 12 noon.

The municipality works together with the police to look after and follow up those left behind.

Passengers shouted and howled

The bus driver confirms The messenger that the incident probably happened inside the bus.

– I didn’t see it myself, says the bus driver to the newspaper.

He was driving bus route 215A when the stabbing happened. The driver wished to remain anonymous.

– Suddenly many passengers start shouting and howling, then there was chaos in the bus. I stopped at the nearest bus stop, the driver tells the newspaper.

The line is run by Unibuss. The operations manager in Bærum, Roy Klausen, says they currently know little about what happened on the bus.

– It is a bit difficult to comment on the incident, because I do not know anything about the sequence of events, he says and adds:

– Such events are of course difficult. But we take care of the driver.

He states that they have secured video evidence from the bus.

Interrogated many witnesses

– Do you know if the victim and the perpetrator have a relationship with each other?

– It is too early to say now. It could be, but we have to investigate, said team leader Arve Røtterud at the scene.

The police have questioned many witnesses, some of them young.

– We have five to six good witnesses, confirms Røtterud.
