(Motorsport-Total.com) – Charles Leclerc officially started the Formula 1 season this weekend. The Ferrari driver did the first laps of the new year in a tire test for Pirelli in Jerez. After a foggy start to the day, Monegasse finally drove 130 laps behind the wheel of a modified SF90 with 18-inch tires. At the request of Ferrari, however, images could not be published.

It was the start of an intensive test program by Pirelli before the 2021 season. With a view to switching to 18-inch tires, the Italians completed a total of 25 test days. Each of the ten Formula 1 racing teams will complete two dry days and will provide Pirelli with a special test car.
In addition, there are a total of five days on wet slopes, which are divided between the three top teams Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull. The test cars will then also be used for the joint test drives in Abu Dhabi after the season.
Ferrari is the only team to drive ahead of the season and will have another rainy day in Fiorano on March 5 before the new season starts. Most midfield teams didn’t want to wait until the middle of the season to get through the season start without being distracted.
