13 Freeport Employees Trapped Due to Flood and Landslide in Tembagapura

A total of 13 employees of PT Freeport Indonesia in the Copperpura District, Mimika Regency, Central Papua, was reportedly caught in flash floods and landslides. They are still waiting to be evacuated.

“On Saturday, February 11, 2023 at around 16.00 WIT, there was an avalanche in the Sag Mile 3 Mile 74 Area of ​​the Copperpura District due to high rainfall which resulted in a landslide in area 74,” said Head of Public Relations of the Papua Regional Police Kombes Ignatius Benny Ady Prabowo when asked confirmation, as reported detikSulselSaturday (11/2/2023).

Benny said, there are 13 employees who are currently still trapped in the work area. Until now, the employees were said to be still waiting for the evacuation process.

“In Sag Mile 3 above Amole shop Mile 74, there are around 13 employees who are trapped in the work area and need evacuation,” he said.

He added that the condition of the trapped workers was still safe.

“While they are still safe and in 1 room that is safe from landslides,” he explained.
