12360 new cases of infection have been registered in the last 24 hours. It’s a new record, and the third this week. The previous record was 11,825 new registrants infected January 13th.

This is 4472 cases more than the average of the previous seven days (7888).

252 people are hospitalized, shows VG’s overview. 78 are receiving intensive care and 58 are on a respirator.

This is 6,200 cases more than on Friday last week, which was 6,160.

According to VG’s calculation, the trend in registered infection is increasing.

233 municipalities have an increasing trend.

Espen Rostrup Nakstad stated this week that there will be significantly more infection.

– The omicron variant doubles every eight days, it looks like in Norway, so there will be significantly more infection, even though we have had infection control measures, he said.

The government eased the measures a bit after the press conference on Thursday, and Minister of Health Ingvild Kjerkol also admitted that many will be infected in the coming months.

The reason why the measures are relaxed is that many more have been vaccinated, and are thus better protected. At the same time, more is known about the omicron variant, which gives milder symptoms for most people.
