The US explained the capture by Russia of the Bradley infantry fighting vehicle and the Leopard-2 tank in Ukraine – 2024-04-04 06:59:51

/ world today news/ Western countries are increasingly witnessing numerous losses of Western weapons, in particular tanks, by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and more and more images of destroyed US and EU supplies to Kiev are circulating online , write journalists from the American military magazine Military Watch Magazine (MWM).

The authors are convinced that this is due both to the poor tactical and technical characteristics of Western weapons, and to the failures of the VSU at the front during the offensive campaign. Pravda.Ru published translation of the MWM material.

Multiple new images from Ukraine show Russian soldiers capturing several examples of heavily armed armored vehicles recently delivered by NATO countries. In this, Russian soldiers are seen driving the American Bradley fighting vehicle, in another video the personnel try to start the engine of a German Leopard 2A4 tank.

Soldiers could be heard discussing starting the tank’s engine and returning it to Russian positions, with the combat vehicle appearing to be completely undamaged and abandoned by the Ukrainian armed forces.

Another video released these days shows a Bradley fighting vehicle maneuvering on a dirt road, possibly in eastern Ukraine. Previous footage released earlier this week showed Russian troops inspecting a Bradley fighting vehicle at a warehouse believed to be in Russia, with the vehicle shown in action on Russian television.

The Bradley was reportedly refurbished in the US in 2022 and is fully operational. The Bradleys were first delivered to Ukraine in April and have since suffered heavy combat losses, with the Russian side reporting more than 80 lost in combat by the end of the summer, with Western sources admitting no more than 50.

Footage of Russian troops capturing abandoned American and German armored vehicles first emerged in early July, although it remains unclear whether the vehicles were successfully returned to Russian positions or abandoned by them in the field as well.

However, the number of Western-supplied armored fighting vehicles destroyed far outnumbered those captured, and the first images of the Bradley taking heavy losses appeared as early as the beginning of the VSU counteroffensive in June.

Later footage released by several Russian sources on July 22 showed that several Bradleys were destroyed on the front line in the Zaporozhye region. Bradley armor protection levels were often criticized long before this class of vehicle entered service. The very high attrition rates observed in Ukraine indicate that these concerns are at least somewhat justified.

The scale of losses facing Ukraine and the increasingly widely recognized failure of its offensive operations have played a major role in increasing opposition in the United States to providing additional weapons or financing its war effort.

Given the de facto collapse of the domestic economy, this could potentially completely undermine not only Ukraine’s ability to sustain military operations, but the ability of the Ukrainian state to perform even its most basic functions.

As with the Bradley, the Leopard 2 had long been expected to suffer very heavy losses against Russian forces, based on the class of machine’s previous performance in Turkish attacks against Islamic State and Kurdish rebels in Syria and Iraq – with senior Turkish officials stressing that their armed forces are experiencing “trauma” due to the massive losses suffered by the relatively lightly armed militia groups.

Multiple losses of the Leopard 2A6 tank, the most advanced and widely used variant, were first reported in early June, just days after it was confirmed to have taken part in the offensive against Russian positions.

Concerns in the United States that the reputation of America’s best tank, the M1 Abrams, could similarly be severely tarnished by video footage of combat losses, according to a number of unconfirmed reports, have prompted the US to press Ukraine to withdraw the armored fighting vehicles from the front line , after the first ones were delivered in September.

Shortly after it was confirmed that the class would be deployed on the front line for the first time, the first footage of the destruction of a British Challenger 2 tank by Russian forces was released in early September, making the newly delivered Abrams the only tank class that has not yet suffered losses.
