11.50pm: Injured in collision with tree in Stadskanaal

A motorist was injured when he crashed into a tree in Stadskanaal. The vehicle went off the road on Boerhaavestraat. It is not known how this could have happened.

21.15: Upside down car in Kropswolde

On the Strandweg in Kropswolde, a car ended up on its side near the road on Wednesday evening. Smoothness may have played a role. According to a passerby, the driver has problems with his hand, but does not have to go to the hospital. His vehicle is taken away.

17.15: Slightly injured in the clash at City

One person was slightly injured in a two-car collision in Stad on Wednesday afternoon. The collision occurred at the intersection of Olgerweg and Kattegat. Traffic that wants to cross the intersection must choose a different route. Both cars are removed.

15.30: More trains between Assen and Groningen

Rail traffic between Assen and Groningen will be resumed after the collision on Wednesday morning. From 16:00, hours should resume as normal. The collision occurred at the Bovenlangs level crossing in Loon (municipality of Assen). The NS has deployed bus stops between Groningen, Groningen Europapark, Haren and Assen.

11.20: Exchange failures between Buitenpost-Zuidhorn and Stedum-Delfzijl

Arriva suffered a signal and point failure on the platforms between Buitenpost and Zuidhorn on Wednesday morning, as a result of which no trains were running. The buses have been deployed. The outage was resolved by 1pm. However, there is still a point error between Groningen and Delfzijl-West so no trains are running. This break should last until approximately 2.30pm.

10.25: Borg bridge malfunction in Groningen (update: fixed)

The Borg bridge over the Eems canal near Groningen was blocked for several hours on Wednesday morning for both car and ship traffic. The bridge, which connects the district of Meerstad with the districts of Ruischerwaard and Lewenborg, has suffered a technical malfunction. Probably the cause was last night’s severe frost. The engineers were able to repair the fault in the early afternoon.

09.30: Cyclist injured after collision with motorist

A cyclist was injured in a collision with a motorist at the Vondellaan roundabout in Groningen on Wednesday morning. According to a 112 photographer, the victim was taken to hospital after being treated by ambulance personnel. The roundabout has now been reopened to traffic.

07.30: Cars damaged by lorry wheel detachment on N33

Four cars sustained significant damage from a detached lorry wheel on the N33 near Gieten. The lorry was heading towards Veendam when the wheel came loose and bounced off the center conductor.

The wheel hit two cars on the left side of the road and then ricocheted off the right side. Two other cars were hit there. According to the police, no one was injured in the accident. The police are still looking for the truck.

Traffic has been temporarily diverted to a single lane on both sides. This led to traffic jams.
