10 US airlines want further 5G delay: “Technology can disrupt flights”

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) granted approval last weekend allowing some airlines to operate in zones where new 5G wireless services are being used.

The decision allows low-visibility landings at about half of U.S. airports with equipment for such landings, significantly reducing the potential impact on flight schedules.

But according to Verizon and AT&T, the 5G signals are sufficiently separated from the frequencies used by altimeters. Industry organization CTIA, to which the telecom providers are affiliated, says that 5G works safely in almost forty countries and does not cause harmful interference to aviation activities in these countries. The trade association accused the airline industry of “sowing fear” and “twisting facts”.

According to CTIA, delaying 5G will cause major damage and sharply reduce economic growth.
