10 people were arrested for the National Police in relation to the murder of attorney Walter Vallejo the morning of May 5, 2022 at the door of a hotel in Guayaquil. Five of those arrested have a history of murder, assault and armed robbery.
As a result of the assassination, the Police began looking for suspects according to data obtained on the spot. In a vehicle, a person was found who met the profile that the investigators were looking for.
The citizen was arrested and questioned. From his confession, a home in the north of Guayaquil, where six adults and three minors were found.
In the possession of the detainees was found three grenades for military use, feeders, projectiles and clothing for police use. They also carried communication equipment and three motorcycles.
Lawyer attended a meeting
According to the first investigations, Vallejo was murdered when he was leaving the hotel. In the place he had held an advisory meeting with a potential client.
The violent death of the lawyer, who was mentioned in the audios in the case of the former president Abdullah Bucaram related to the purchase of medicines, occurs when in Guayaquil a state of exception prevails. Despite the fact that the measure dictated by the Government is going to last a week, murders are recorded daily.
Guayaquil, Durán and Samborondón have a rate of 3.5 violent deaths per day. So far this year the murders exceed 450.
Besides of state of exception, the curfew is in force in the parishes of Ximena (suburb), Pascuales (north of Guayaquil), Eloy Alfaro in Durán and Esmeraldas in the capital of Esmeralda. In the case of Guayas, 1,800 soldiers support the patrol tasks of the police.
On Friday, May 6, a meeting is planned to evaluate the results of the operations. The appointment will be police, military and civil authorities.
