Saarlanders drive the oldest cars. On average, CHECK24 insured cars have been on the roads in Saarland for 10.4 years. This makes them on average a year older than in Bavaria and Thuringia. The average age of the cars in the two Free States is only 9.3 years.1)
On average, cars are the oldest in Duisburg and youngest in Potsdam
Comparing the 50 largest German cities, cars are the oldest in Duisburg and Gelsenkirchen at 11.2 years. Behind them are Hagen (10.8), Ludwigshafen, Osnabrück and Saarbrücken (both 10.7). The latest vehicles are in Augsburg (8.8) and Potsdam (8.6). 1)
Average age of cars has increased by 18 percent since 2007
Vehicles of CHECK24 customers were 8.4 years old on average in 2007. In 2018, customers specified the age of their car at 9.9 years when taking out insurance – an increase of one and a half years or 18 percent.2)
