On the night of Thursday (June 25, 2020), the police arrested a scooter driver in Willich who had previously been on a long and dangerous chase trip through the Krefeld city area with the police. Two police officers were slightly injured when they were arrested.
When civilian officers stopped at 1:45 a.m. at a red traffic light at the Ostwall / Südwall intersection, they noticed a scooter driver who overtook them and then turned right onto the Südwall at red. The license plate of the scooter was flipped up and the lights were off.
They started the chase and turned on the flashing lights, sirens, and stop signals. Instead of stopping, the scooter driver accelerated and drove onto Gerberstrasse opposite the one-way street towards Deutscher Ring. There he drove onto a bollard where the officials lost sight of him.
A short time later, police officers saw him on Oberschlesienstrasse. When he noticed the patrol car, he switched to the sidewalk and then drove via Wehrhahnweg, Bonifatiusstraße and Burgerstraße into the Stadtpark Fischeln. There was almost a rear-end collision with a patrol car when the scooter driver suddenly braked on the green area. The police officer reacted in good time and was able to prevent a collision.
He then escaped on Kimplerstrasse and then turned left onto Erkelenzer Strasse. There was a patrol car across the road. To get around the block, the scooter driver accelerated and drove past the patrol car across the sidewalk. Behind it, he almost crashed into a civil service vehicle. The driver was able to evade in time so that there was no collision.
He then drove to Fischeln city park again and then went on a chase trip with the officials across Fischeln. In a dead end on the heather path, the scooter driver drove to a patrol car. The driver opened the door. When he wanted to get out, the scooter driver suddenly hit the open driver’s door and then continued on towards Cologne Street. The patrol car door was damaged, luckily the policeman was not injured.
From the Kölner Straße he drove against the direction of the Autobahn 44 towards Aachen. At the Hoxhöfe rest area, the officials lost sight of the fugitives.
Because they recognized the scooter driver from a previous mission, civilian police from the Krefeld police posted themselves at the Willicher’s home address. He arrived at his home address at around 2:55 a.m. Shortly before, he switched off his scooter and pushed the last few meters to the house. When they arrested him, he resisted, slightly injuring the two officers. They remained on duty. Fortunately, there was no danger to other road users during the entire pursuit.
The officials noticed smell of alcohol in the 31-year-old German. He also gave confused statements, suspecting that he was under the influence of alcohol and drugs. They took him to the guard where a blood sample was taken. His scooter was also secured. The police-known Willicher was temporarily detained. A criminal trial awaits him. (291)
