A serious traffic accident occurred this morning, February 3rd, 2022, at around 6.15 a.m. on the B3 between Freiburg and Schallstadt. A black Audi A5 collided with the crash barrier on the right-hand side of the road just before the Schallstadt exit. The force of the impact split the vehicle in two. Flying fragments and wreckage damaged two other vehicles. The vehicle involved in the accident came to a standstill on the green area adjacent to the road at a depth of around 4 meters.
The driver of the vehicle was seriously injured in the accident and taken to a Freiburg clinic by the rescue service.
The B3 in the direction of Schallstadt had to be completely closed for the duration of the accident investigation, rescue and cleaning work. The lockdown was lifted around 10:10 a.m.
According to current knowledge, no further information is available on the cause of the accident.
The traffic accident service (tel: 0761-882-3100) has taken up the accident and the investigation. Witnesses who can provide information about the course of the accident are asked to contact the police.
