The driver of a van was seriously injured in a traffic accident on the A 45 on Wednesday (September 2).
According to initial findings, traffic in the direction of Dortmund jammed at around 9 a.m. in front of the Hagen intersection. A 65-year-old from Breitscheid (Hessen) apparently recognized this too late for an unexplained cause. At the end of the traffic jam, he drove his pickup truck onto the tractor-trailer of a 34-year-old from Lithuania. The 65-year-old was trapped and had to be freed by the fire brigade. Rescue workers took the seriously injured man to a hospital.
The lane in the direction of Dortmund had to be closed until around 11.05 a.m. during the accident recording and rescue work. The traffic was then directed past the accident site in the left lane. A rescue helicopter was also used.
The police estimate the damage to property at around 30,000 euros.
