Bielefeld (ots)

Already on August 1st, 2021, customs officers from the main customs office in Bielefeld, control unit at Paderborn Airport, directed a vehicle with a Polish license plate from the flowing traffic of the BAB 44 to a customs control at the “Steinhausen” motorway parking lot. Both the driver and his co-driver identified themselves to the officials as Polish citizens and declared that they were on their way to Poland from the Netherlands. When asked about goods subject to excise duty and prohibited items, they both answered in the negative. In addition to suitcases and work clothes in the trunk and on the back seat of the vehicle, the officers noticed a rolled 5 euro note with white buildup in the center console during the subsequent check. When asked about this, the driver suggested that someone had forgotten it at the party there yesterday. The customs officers continued to search the vehicle and noticed that the window on the passenger side did not open completely. With the aid of the void vision device, packages wrapped with silver tape could be seen inside the passenger door. After removing the door panel, the customs officers held four packages and a paper bag in their hands. An initial determination and weighing of the substances found on site resulted in approx. 640 grams of marijuana, approx. 45 grams of ecstasy and a good 50 grams of cocaine. According to the results of the investigation so far, the passenger was not aware that drugs were hidden in the vehicle. He was released again. The Paderborn public prosecutor’s office applied for an arrest warrant against the driver for the unauthorized import of narcotics in large quantities, which was issued by the Paderborn District Court in accordance with the application. Because of this, the driver is in custody.

The further investigations are carried out by the Frankfurt am Main customs investigation office on behalf of the Paderborn public prosecutor.
