To support the Mühlheim an der Ruhr fire brigade in the event of a major fire in a former supermarket, fire department 3 of the Düsseldorf district government with units from Mönchengladbach, the district of Viersen and Krefeld moved into the Ruhr area today at 5:00 p.m. The emergency services will replace units from Düsseldorf, the Mettmann district and the Neuss district who have been working at the site since this morning and who have replaced or supported the fire fighters from Mühlheim. At 4 p.m. the alerted fire engines from the Lower Rhine began to gather at the main fire and rescue station in Krefeld. There they were put together to form a large unit and then moved out together as a closed column into the Ruhr area. They are supported by disaster control units of the MHD and the DRK. The major fire in Mülheim an der Ruhr broke out in a former supermarket in the night from Sunday to Monday. Several hundred emergency services have been fighting the flames for many hours in icy temperatures and have to be relieved and replaced on a regular basis. The expected deployment time for the third standby is approx. 12-16 hours, so that the fire fighters from the Lower Rhine are expected to be on duty all night.
