At around 4.38 p.m., the control center of the Krefeld fire brigade was informed of a fire in a business on Emil-Schäfer-Straße. Thereupon both units of the professional fire brigade and the emergency services were alerted. When the fire department arrived, all employees had already left the affected areas. Heavy smoke was observed in two halls. From the outside, flames were visible in the ceiling in one of the halls. In the roof area, there was a fire on the roof covering of approx. 1 m². This fire was extinguished using a turning tube via the turntable ladder. The attack inside the building was quickly fought by an attack team with respiratory protection. In the further course of the mission, the Uerdingen volunteer fire brigade was alerted in support. By dismantling the insulation from pipelines, further embers were exposed and extinguished. No people were injured during the operation. The operation lasted about 2.5 hours. Both units of the professional fire brigade, the volunteer fire brigade Uerdingen and the rescue service of the city of Krefeld were deployed.
