Although the Ministry of the Environment of North Rhine-Westphalia prohibited the burning of Easter fires, the Alt-Wetter extinguishing unit and the operational command service were alerted a total of five times on Easter Saturday with the keyword “customs fire” from 4:34 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. No intervention by the fire brigade was required at most of the locations, since the fires could be extinguished by the operator. The regulatory office, which had recorded the personal details, was also on site at all of the operational sites.
On Easter Sunday, the fire extinguishing unit Alt-Wetter was reported at 7:33 p.m. in a forest fire on Harkortberg. After a long search, the all-clear could be given. In a garden in Memelstrasse a compost heap had ignited independently, which could be extinguished before the fire department arrived. The area was checked with the thermal imager. No further measures were required for the 20 volunteers deployed and the assignment ended after a good 45 minutes.
It continued for the extinguishing units Wengern, Esborn and Alt-Wetter at 10:43 p.m. in Deipenbecker Weg. A CO alarm had triggered in a residential building here. The area was entered with a measuring device by a troop under respiratory protection. No elevated values could be found here. The operation was ended after a good 45 minutes because the utility company called up was unable to determine any deviating values. In addition to the fire brigade, the emergency services and the police were also on site.
