Silver medal for “Frank Lloyd Wright – The Phoenix from the Ashes” (SWR / ARTE 2020) at the New York Festivals 2021 / noch until November 7th in the ARD media library

The TV documentary about the most famous American architect Frank Lloyd Wright by Sigrid Faltin was awarded a silver medal in the “Biographies” category at the New York Festivals 2021. The undoped prize was given out virtually from Las Vegas last night. “Frank Lloyd Wright – The Phoenix from the Ashes” (SWR / ARTE 2020) is on until November 7th ARD media library to see. The film is a SWR production for ARTE and was also recognized as a “Legendary Feature Documentary” at the fourth “Independent Documentary Film Festival Legendary Doc” in Los Angeles at the beginning of October.

Lively review of an unusual life

The SWR documentary for ARTE has already been shown at various international festivals and traces the unusual life of the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright: many previously unpublished film recordings and photos, conversations with his grandson, his students, with art historians, biographers and the writer TC Boyle, who lives in a Wright house and wrote a bestseller about “The Wives” of the master contribute to a lively portrait. Frank Lloyd Wright himself has his say in interviews and quotes from his autobiography.

Frank Lloyd Wright

“I will be the greatest architect of the 20th century,” Wright is reported to have once said. Instead of modesty, clarity and straightforwardness up to and including uncompromisingness were among his virtues. Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) is America’s most famous architect, self-promoter, admired teacher, and failed businessman. With the Guggenheim Museum and Fallingwater, the house above the waterfall, he created icons of architecture. Scandals and catastrophes such as murders, divorces, bankruptcies and social ostracism could not harm his reputation.

Sigrid Faltin

Sigrid Faltin studied English, German and history in Bonn and Freiburg. After a journalistic traineeship, she worked as a regional correspondent for the SWF and moderated on radio and television. Today she works as a writer and producer for television documentaries and documentaries. Her films have received awards and screened worldwide. Sigrid Faltin is a member of the AG Dok and the European Documentary Network. She lives in Freiburg im Breisgau.
