On September 17 and 18, 2021, the Federal Police Inspection in Kleve, together with the neighboring security authorities, carried out stationary and mobile checks on and on the federal highways A 57, A 40, A 52 and A 61 in the districts of Kleve and Viersen. On Friday, 68 officers from the Federal Police, Koninklijke Marechaussee, Düsseldorf motorway police, the Viersen district police and the Krefeld main customs office and on Saturday 33 employees from these authorities worked in joint teams. In addition to the fight against cross-border crime, aspects of road safety were also in the foreground of the measures. A total of 297 vehicles and 399 people were stopped and checked on both days. The officers discovered numerous violations.

On Friday at around 11:30 a.m., the officers checked an Audi A 6 with Polish registration on federal motorway 40. A urine test carried out on the 30-year-old driver gave positive results for cannabis. At the motorway police station in Moers, a blood sample was taken from him, a complaint was made and, after the measures were completed, he was prohibited from continuing his journey. A security deposit was paid. A good three hours later, the driver took a taxi to the control point, got into his vehicle and drove onto the autobahn. It could be stopped again a little later. A second blood sample was taken and the vehicle key was secured.

When checking a vehicle with a Belgian registration on Friday, it turned out that this vehicle was wanted by the Belgian authorities to secure property. The 46-year-old Polish driver could not show a driver’s license. In addition, he drove the vehicle under the influence of amphetamines, as a corresponding test showed. A small amount of amphetamine was also found in the vehicle. He admitted to the officials that he did not know that the car was stolen. He was allegedly only commissioned to bring the vehicle to Poland. The man had already appeared in 2020 for gang theft and commercial stolen goods and also had a sticky note.

On Saturday, a vehicle registered in Hagen was checked on the BAB 40 at the Straelen junction. The 56-year-old driver replied twice when asked about a larger amount of cash. The officers then found a total of EUR 50,000 in cash in a paper bag in the trunk. In this case, customs initiated the clearing procedure. The man had never appeared before the police in either Germany or the Netherlands.

The officers made a total of five criminal charges for violating the Narcotics Act, seven criminal charges for driving without a license and 27 administrative offenses (traffic offenses). In addition, in six cases a blood sample was ordered for driving under intoxicating substances. Wanted notices (enforcement of fines and residence investigations) were stored in the police search systems for 13 people. Furthermore, two arrest warrants could be executed.
