Zurich’s Power Plant Takes Control of District Heating Network

The city of Zurich’s power plant (ewz) will now be responsible for the district heating network, as the city council announced on Wednesday. To date, part of the facility has also been operated by Entsorgung & Recycling Zürich (ERZ) and Energie 360°, a corporation that is 96 percent owned by the city.

The city will now draw up an implementation plan for the new organization by the end of the year. The city council is thus implementing a demand from the municipal council, as he writes. A motion had called for the supply networks for gas, heating and cooling to be nationalized again.

Parliament will have to decide on the reorganization at a later date. At the same time, a motion calling for a standard tariff for district heating is also being fulfilled.

In a press release, Energie 360° announced that as a result of this plan it would become more active throughout Switzerland. The city of Zurich wants to reduce the shareholding in Energie 360° accordingly.
