Zuidoost district council: withdraw subsidy for G-neighborhood

If it is up to the board of the Zuidoost district, the subsidy for the G neighborhood will be withdrawn. Last summer it turned out that the former chairman of the foundation receiving the money had committed theft.

The project is part of an Amsterdam pilot to give citizens more influence in the design of their residential area and started a year ago. But after the theft of the former chairman had come out, the Democratization G-Buurt Foundation fell apart.

The latter was the reason for the city council to advise the withdrawal of the subsidy. Support for the foundation, of which the board currently consists of one person, has declined sharply, according to the city council.

Money may still go to G-neighborhood

The district council does emphasize that the decision is not a reflection of confidence in the current administration. ‘It is clear to the district that the current administration has made every effort to reclaim the stolen subsidy funds.’

If the council adopts the advice of the district council, it will be examined whether the money can possibly be invested in another way in G-neighborhood.
