Prime Minister on Thursday Mateusz Morawiecki announced that he would submit an application to the Constitutional Tribunal o to examine the constitutionality of the Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, i.e. the Istanbul Convention, which our country ratified in 2015. Until its denunciation within a few days Zbigniew Ziobro is convincing and related politicians.
On Thursday evening, the Minister of Justice was a guest of Radio Maryja, in which he commented on Morawiecki’s request. – I appreciate that the Prime Minister took a position on this topic, which is very important to us. But, as is the case in a coalition, we agree on many issues, but there are also matters on which we can differ beautifully from the Prime Minister. And in this case it is exactly like that – he said.
– The prime minister indicated that in his opinion there were doubts as to the constitutionality of several points of this convention. All the points he mentioned, in my opinion as the minister of justice and the prosecutor general, do not raise any doubts that they are contrary to the Polish constitution – emphasized Ziobro.
– I made a direct request to remove this convention from the Polish legal system as it was obviously, on various important points, contrary to the Polish constitution. What we are slightly different from the Prime Minister here is also the approach to time. Because the mills of justice, also in the Constitutional Tribunal, grind slowly – added the Minister of Justice.
