Zelensky called on the United States to impose sanctions against Russia

Putin does not understand vague threats, Zelensky stressed and added that sanctions against SP-2 should be introduced now.

President Volodymyr Zelensky called on US senators to urgently impose sanctions against Russia. About it informs Axios on Thursday, January 20th.

“The President (of Ukraine – ed.) has made it clear: sanctions against Nord Stream 2 must be introduced now. After all, any likely sanctions against Nord Stream 2 or other restrictions will be in vain,” the newspaper writes.

Zelenskiy also thanked the seven senators who visited Ukraine for their bipartisan support, but noted that real containment would mean imposing immediate sanctions to make it clear to Russian President Vladimir Putin that “the United States is not to be trifled with.” Zelensky stressed that the sanctions imposed after further escalation are at best neutral, and at worst they are actually “encouraging Putin.”

“Like old neighbors, Ukrainians better understand the ‘Russian mentality’. Putin does not understand vague threats. The word ‘if’ is not in his vocabulary, but there are only ‘yes’ and ‘no’,” Zelensky summed up.

Recall that earlier Zelensky and Blinken discussed Russian aggression. The US Secretary of State arrived in Ukraine on behalf of the President of the country, including to talk about negotiations with Russia.

No panic: Zelensky turned to the Ukrainians
