Zelensky made a statement on Belarus

Belarus needs to find a peaceful and democratic way out of the current socio-political conflict, says President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky.

On his Facebook page, he recalled that Belarus has always been a good friend and partner for Ukraine. However, now a very difficult situation has developed in the republic. In order for Belarus to be a democratic, economically strong and independent power in the future, its residents must find an exceptionally peaceful way to resolve the conflict, Zelensky stressed.

He also called on Belarus to refrain from illegal detentions and violence. In particular, Zelensky pointed out that the Ukrainian human rights activists and journalists detained on August 12 did not violate the laws of the republic and were there only to obtain reliable information about the events.

“We are really not indifferent. We are really worried about everything that happens in Belarus,” Zelensky summed up.

He also advised Ukrainians to refrain from traveling to the neighboring republic until the situation there stabilized.

Protest actions in Minsk and other cities of the country have not ceased since the day of the presidential elections. According to the results announced by the CEC, Alexander Lukashenko won them.

As reported by Sputnik Belarus, almost 6,000 people were detained during the rallies in a few days. Many protesters have suffered from the actions of the security forceswho used stun grenades, batons, rubber bullets against them.
