President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy invited Romanian President Klaus Yohannis to take part in the inaugural summit of the Crimean Platform and the celebration of Ukraine’s Independence Day. This was announced on Wednesday, May 12, by the press service of the President’s Office.

It is noted that during the telephone conversation, the presidents of the two countries exchanged views on the international agenda, discussed in detail the current challenges to regional security and the further development of the bilateral dialogue between Ukraine and Romania. Separately, the measures of the governments of states aimed at combating the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, in particular, access to vaccines, were discussed.

“Volodymyr Zelenskyy informed Klaus Yohannis about the recent escalation from Russia of the situation along the borders of Ukraine and noted the importance of active support of the international community to reduce tensions on the border, which has not completely disappeared … Volodymyr Zelenskyy shared the latest information on the prolonged militarization of the temporarily occupied Ukrainian Crimea and drew attention to constant deterioration of the humanitarian situation on the peninsula, “the message says.

The presidents noted the growth in 2020 of indicators of trade and economic cooperation between Ukraine and Romania, despite the restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Zelensky, the implementation of planned cross-border infrastructure projects, in particular the construction of a bridge over the Tisza River, will also contribute to the activation of economic cooperation and the strengthening of interpersonal contacts.

It was previously reported that Ukraine will receive 100 thousand doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from Romania. In total, Romania will allocate 200 thousand doses to two countries – Moldova and Ukraine.

Recall today Zelensky also discussed the de-occupation of Crimea with the Speaker of the Seimas of Lithuania.
