Zelensky enacted NSDC decision on sanctions against Yanukovych and his entourage

The decree brings into effect the decisions of the National Security and Defense Council of March 19. The document comes into force from the date of publication, they noted in the message.

The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine at a meeting on March 19 decided to impose maximum personal sanctions against a number of citizens of Ukraine and Russia on the recommendation of the Cabinet of Ministers and the Security Service. Among them are fugitive ex-president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, ex-prime minister Mykola Azarov, ex-minister of defense Pavel Lebedev and ex-head of the Ministry of Education Dmitry Tabachnik, ex-prosecutor general Viktor Pshonka, “prosecutor” of Crimea Natalya Poklonskaya and “head” of the administration of the occupied Crimea Sergey Aksenov.

Context:

  • The head of the Security Service of Ukraine Ivan Bakanov said that the SBU had recommended the introduction of economic sanctions against former high-ranking officials and individuals who helped to strengthen the occupation regime in Crimea and Donbass. He called the names from this list, including Yanukovych, Tabachnik, Pshonka and Lebedev.
  • NSDC Secretary Aleksey Danilov, commenting on the imposition of sanctions against Yanukovych and his entourage, said, then 99% of them have already received Russian passports.
