Zelensky asks the EU not to play along with Putin in the decision to start negotiations on Ukraine

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky believes that the absence of a decision at the EU summit in December to begin negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union would be a victory for the Kremlin.

Source: Zelensky told reporters after negotiations with the President of the European Council, which took place in Kyiv in the presence of the President of Moldova, a correspondent of European Pravda reports.

Details: Zelensky, describing the situation, did not refute the possibility that the EU summit in December may refuse open negotiations with Ukraine.

He emphasized that Ukraine has done and will continue to do everything in its power to fulfill the EU requirements, the so-called “7 criteria”, which are defined as a prerequisite for further steps. He also noted that the EU itself describes Ukraine’s progress positively. “We are ready for today, and I see a positive reaction (from the European Union),” he said.

The EU’s refusal will have far-reaching consequences, Vladimir Zelensky emphasized. “I would very much like us not to play into the hands of Russia. If there is no unification of Europe around such an important decision, then after this (precedent – EP) other decisions may “break” – on assistance to Ukraine, on sanctions pressure, on financial assistance. This is a big challenge for everyone, not only for Ukraine,” the president explained.

However, answering a clarifying question from European Pravda, Zelensky stressed that a negative decision has not been made yet. He also noted that there are concerns not only about Orbán’s position: “There is no problem yet. The elephant in the room could be anyone.”

“The main thing is for us to carry out what is planned. There are seven recommendations, we must implement them completely so that there are no questions for us,” he explained Ukraine’s strategy.

As you know, Hungarian Prime Minister Orban publicly promises to block a positive decision for Kyiv.

At the same time, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel promises to do his bestto achieve unanimity in support of Ukraine in December.
