Doctors promise to raise minimum wages

The minimum wage for nurses should be at least UAH 13.5 thousand, for doctors – at least 20 thousand.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday, June 18, signed a decree to increase the salaries of doctors. Zelensky signed the decree during congratulations to the Day of the Medic.
“We must find new mechanisms and new resources until the size of the salaries of doctors becomes fair. And one of the steps to achieve this goal will be signed by me today, now, a decree, I believe, is an important decree of the President of Ukraine,” Zelensky said.

He explained that the decree sets a benchmark for the minimum wage: at least UAH 13.5 thousand for nurses and at least UAH 20 thousand for doctors.
Zelensky added that his team “will do everything to ensure that the increase in salaries is not only on paper.”

The president also said that this year they will launch a project involving the construction of hospitals in a new format.
“One of the steps towards high-quality medicine will be our new project – the launch of hospitals of a new, qualitatively different format, according to the best international standards. Hospitals are equally comfortable for both the patient and the doctor. We are starting this project this year with regional clinical and children’s hospitals, which should correspond to the level of European clinics, “Zelensky said.
According to him, this project will be implemented in every region.
He also said that the construction of hospitals continues under the Big Construction program.
“33 hospitals and 60 rural outpatient clinics have already been created. It is planned to have 30 more medical institutions and 340 rural outpatient clinics by the end of 2021, plus 200 modern admission departments throughout Ukraine,” the president said.
According to the National Health Service, on average doctors of public medical institutions earn less than 10 thousand hryvnia. At the same time, the heads of medical institutions receive an average of 23.5 thousand UAH, the average medical staff – 7.5 thousand UAH, and the junior – 6.1 thousand UAH.
We will remind, the ex-head of the Ministry of Health Maxim Stepanov said that the budget for 2021 did not include salary increases for doctors.
