Zandvoort continues to improve circuit: ‘Still want to tackle access road’

The organization of circuit Zandvoort today announced in a press moment on the circuit to GPFans, among others, that it will now be known as CM.com Circuit Zandvoort. It was also announced that the Grade One license has now finally been received for the circuit. GPFans asked circuit director Robert van Overdijk whether this means that the circuit is now really complete and ready for Formula 1.

“Well look, if you have that Grade One license, and we have it, then you are technically ready to organize a Formula 1 race,” said Van Overdijk. “The fact that we still have a lot of wishes, also has to do with our ambitions in the coming years to not only be a racing circuit, but also a much broader business market location, well we still have a number of wishes for that. But you only really get that Grade One license when you are completely ready to host a Formula 1 race. ”

When asked whether things will have changed on the circuit in May, when the Formula 1 race will actually be held at Zandvoort, Van Overdijk agreed. According to the circuit director, the circuit will continue to develop: ” Yes, of course, we now also have the time. We have completed this renovation job under enormous time pressure, we now have a little more time, so you just keep fine-tuning in all kinds of areas. We have not yet addressed the access road where you enter the circuit, we have not yet done that. There is of course a wish to at least continue to address that, ” says Van Overdijk.
