‘Asian Champion’ Ulsan Hyundai failed to advance to the semifinals of the FIFA Club World Cup. He scored the opening goal against’North and Central America Champion’ Tigres UANL (Mexico), but lost in reverse. Director Hong Myung-bo, who returned to the scene after 4 years, tasted bitter.
Ulsan lost 1-2 to Tigres in the 2nd round of the 2020 Club World Cup (6th round) held at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar on the 4th at 11 pm (KST). The fight was tense from the beginning. Ulsan confronted Tigres equally and aimed at the opponent’s gap. In the 18th minute of the first half, Kim Ji-hyun’s right footed medium-range shot threatened Tigres.
Ulsan rode the flow and even broke the opening goal. In the 24th minute of the first half, Tigres opened the goal with a thoroughly prepared set piece. Kim Ki-hee took the corner kick raised by Yun Bit Garam with his head.
